Australian online side event to the 16th CoSP to the CRPD

This event was a QAI side event to the United Nations 16th Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in June 2023.

The event showcased the “UN CRPD/C/5: Guidelines on deinstitutionalisation, including in emergencies (2022)” and considers these guidelines in the context of contemporary forms of institutionalisation.

It includes the stories of people with lived experience of institutionalisation and discusses Australia’s progress under the guidelines. It concludes with a presentation of a Report Card tool that can be used by civil society organisations and governments to evaluate compliance with the guidelines.
