Our CEO, Matilda Alexander, spoke to the ABC on Friday 6th October about the Disability Royal Commission’s recommendation to phase out special schools. Matilda explains what this would look like:
“We’re not talking about kids who are currently happy and stable within their educational environment. What we’re talking about is a staged approach to redirecting the plethora of disability-based resources that are currently going to special schools into a mainstream schooling environment.”
Matilda mentions the Roadmap developed by the Australian Coalition for Inclusive Education (ACIE). The Roadmap, called ‘Driving change: A roadmap for achieving inclusive education in Australia’ sets out clear goals with short, medium and long term outcomes to achieve inclusive education in Australia.
