At the 15th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), QAI learned about the CRPD Committee’s Draft Guidelines on Deinstitutionalisation, including in emergencies. These guidelines are very welcome and will play an important role in clarifying the obligations of States Parties to ensure the right to live independently and be included in the community is realised for all persons with disabilities. Following consultation with the broader Australian Civil Society delegation, QAI and PWDA co-authored a submission in response to the Draft Guidelines, which were open for consultation.
