17 March 2021
Dear QAI members and supporters,
We write to you today asking you to Stand with us! as we fight to secure ongoing funding for disability advocacy services in Queensland.
QAI joins a partnership of independent disability advocacy organisations to form the Queensland Disability Advocacy Alliance. We are calling upon the Queensland Government to include funding for essential disability advocacy services in the upcoming state budget. Current funding expires on June 30, 2021 and the Queensland Government has so far declined to provide a commitment to continue this vital funding.
There has never been a more important time for the voices of people with disability to be heard, particularly in light of the disturbing reports of abuse, neglect, and exploitation emerging from the Disability Royal Commission.
Independent individual, citizen and systemic advocacy assists people with disability to protect their rights and work to make changes that create fairer laws and policies. It is critical to making our communities more inclusive and without it, many of the 900,000 Queenslanders with disability will be left behind and silenced.
We therefore need your help. Please support us by:
- Signing up to the campaign on https://www.standwithus.com.au/take-action
- Joining people with disability and their supporters at the rally (flyer)
Where: outside Queensland Parliament House (Corner of Alice St and George St) in Brisbane
When: Wednesday 24 March 2021 from 1pm – 2pm - Emailing your local MP. If you are unsure who it is or what to say, you can look up your local MP and use a template from our website https://www.standwithus.com.au/take-action
Please share with your contacts and ask them to join us in this campaign!
Thank you, from the Queensland Disability Advocacy Alliance
